The end as the beginning transmuting from the plane of fleshly things, let us now go with mind generating our ethers unto the plane of fleshless things.  As it came to pass one day in May, the year was 1948 when our brother-man said to his Father-God, “With your permission, I shall visit the world.”  Hence, in a little town of McGhee, Arkansas, on January 26, 1949, after being subjectively chosen, Willie Mae Union Leveringston and Cecil Leveringston gave birth to an adept, smooth, and very spiritual Player.  Herbert Leveringston Sr.

Living his first three years in McGhee, Arkansas, and St. Louis, Missouri, Herbert, in 1952 was moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with Cecil Leveringston, his mother, and his siblings where he was raised into adulthood.  God-fearing at the tender age of ten, Herbert accepted Christ and was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Attending public schools #23, (K-), #17 (7-8), and entered Crispus Attucks High School in 1963 and graduated in 1967.  As a Tiger, he lettered in football and cross-country, yet his most favorite subject was woodshop, because Herb was a builder.

“Man, I miss you bro.  Remember the summer I took a whipping for you and me, just so we could go outside and play?  I love you man.” –C Ray

He received his apprenticeship certificate after successfully completing the requirements of the programs of the Indianapolis Plan/Skill center.  He later became a journeyman carpenter and a lifetime member of Carpenter’s Union-Local 60.  “Keyhole”, a moniker given because his eyes were keyhole level and he didn’t have to sneak to take a peak, made his mark on the city of Indianapolis, the many bridges, sidewalks, highway over-passes, and Interstate 465 can attest to his craftsmanship.

Herbert was a family man.  While he is the biological father to Herbert Leveringston Jr. and Hercel “Lamont” Leveringston, he was a father figure to all of his nieces and nephews, family friends, and any child that came within the sound of his voice.  If there was a family event, Herb/Uncle Herb was there, didn’t matter the location, distance, or cost, Herb was there with that infectious smile on his face.

Chronologically, Herbert is the fourth of ten children.  He leaves to cherish his loving memories, two sons, Herbert Leveringston Jr. (Cynthia) and Hercel Lamont Leverinston, two grandchildren (Krystoffer and Iesha Monae Greene); six siblings, sisters, Levator Washington, Ida Wade, Marilyn Leveringston, Pernella Catlett, and two brothers, Charles Ray Leveringston (Shirley), and Clifton Leveringston, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae, and three siblings, Sheila, Wendel, and a still born brother.
