Arthur Johnson III was the son of the late Dr. Arthur Johnson Jr. and Eugene Pierce Johnson. He was born October 26, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

               Arthur attended Elementary School #10, H.L Harshman Middle School and graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1972.

               Arthur was a great athlete; he excelled in track (still holding the record at Tech for the 400 relay), and football; however basketball was his true passion. During his senior year at Tech he lead the city in scoring and rebounding. After high school he attended San Jacinto Junior College for two years; with Art’s talent the team went on to be number one in the nation. From there he went on to attend Iowa State. While attending Iowa State he was voted to be the New Comer of The Year in the big eight. After college the New Orleans Jazz drafted him into the NBA and he also played basketball in Belgium Germany.

               He was employed at the Fathers and Families Center and had previously been employed by Wishard Hospital, the St. Vincent Stress Center, Marion County Juvenile and IDTC.

               Arthur was a godly man who faithfully attended church and bible study on a regular basis. He was pursuing a goal of his to become an ordained minister. He served alongside his wife as the leader in the couple’s ministry.  While he was passionate about his work for The Lord he also had hobbies that brought him great joy; Art was a competitive bowler where he bowled in many leagues; he also loved a good game of chess.

               Art was a protective, loving and devoted father, brother and husband. He cherished his friends and family.

               Arthur Johnson III, departed this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of sixty years, two months and five days.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

               He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Rev. LaTonya Johnson; his children, Mee Lun Johnson, Orlando Johnson, Ashaundra Johnson-Quarles (Marlon), Arthur Johnson IV, Tameka Johnson, Arthur Johnson V (Brittany), Calvin Ockletree, Arthur Johnson, Aaliyah Johnson, Ania Johnson, Rochelle Jones (Ty) and Willie Hill; seventeen grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Reynolds, Ada Marie Holloway (Aaron), Arlene Johnson, Arlette Johnson and Karla Bibbs (Stanley); brothers, Danny Reynolds, Eli Allen Johnson (Kimberly) and Avery Maurice Johnson (Rochelle); Harrington Family, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives.

Johnson Family, you all have my deepest sympathy. A.J. will trully be missed. My heart is sad as I have lost a dear dear friend, you are in my prayers and my heart.

Arthur was my co-worker at Cities in Schools program back in the lat 1970's . I have fond memories of Art and what all of us did to try to be a positive influence to young children . Great guy! May God bless your family at this time.
