John W. James, the son of Elijak James and Anna Mae James, was born April 21, 1943, in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi.  He was the eldest of seven siblings, three of whom, Roosevelt, Mary Ann and Gloria Jean, preceded him in death.
John relocated to Indianapolis, with his family in 1956, at the age of thirteen.
John received his education in the Indianapolis Public School System and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School.  After high school, he enrolled in a local trade school where he learned the art of welding.
John professed a hope in Christ early in life and was baptized.  In later years he affiliated with the Solid Rock Church of God in Christ.
John was employed at Chrysler Foundry and retired after twenty-five years and ten months of service.  He had previously been employed at Howe Engineering for ten years.
While working at Chrysler John met Elder James Darty, the Pastor of Solid  Rock COGIC.  Elder Darty would later minister to John when he became ill and heard his confession of faith.
John was united in Holy Matrimony to Jacqueline Keys, who preceded him in death.  No children were born to this union but he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own, schooling and teaching them the rudiments of life.
An avid sports fan, John was an excellent bowler and played in several leagues until his health affected his bowling skills.  Known as “Uncle Man” to his family and “J.W.” to friends, he loved the Colts and every Sunday the nephews went to “Uncle Man’s” to watch the games.  Holidays and his birthdays were celebrated at his home just like it was Christmas.  A people person, John was kind-hearted and generous and would do anything for anyone, especially his family.
John touched the lives of those too numerous to name and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  His family will especially miss their brother and Uncle Man, knowing God knows best.
Mr. John W. James departed this life on August 28, 2013, at the age of seventy years, four months and seven days.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Anna B. Brown and Geneva Taylor (Keith); one brother, Johnny James; his devoted caregiver, Debra Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences for all in the family. It is our prayer that God will bring comfort to you all now, and during the times ahead. The Bible promises that Jehovah God, (Psalms 83: 18), will bring an end to sickness and death, (Revelation 21:3, 4). Jesus assures us of that at (John 5: 28,29)… He will call and our loved ones who have passed will answer… You can see them again. There will be no more mourning, outcry, or pain… Truly a paradise the way Jehovah God and Jesus Christ originally intended it to be (Psalms 37: 29)… May these words bring true peace and comfort to the family during this time of your loss.
