Mr. Marshall “Popeye” Walden Sr. was born   September 26, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana the second of three children born to the late Harry and Mattie Majors Walden. 
As a child Marshall moved with his parents to Grand Rivers, Kentucky where he received his education and confessed his belief in Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized. 
Marshall returned to Indianapolis, Indiana as a teenager.  He later was united in Holy Matrimony to Adda Mae Outlaw, on July 19, 1952.  He received the nickname, “Popeye”, because he smoked a pipe. 
Marshall  later became a member of the Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in 1978, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Wesley Manning, Sr.  His favorite scripture was Luke 6:31, “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. “
Marshall was employed by Hygrade, Rath Packing and Grand Champion. He retired from the Indianapolis Star & News in 1991.  Even after retirement, Marshall continued working part-time for the Police  Department Headquarters until 2002. 
Marshall liked barbecuing, playing cards and working with his hands.  He loved to watch and attend wrestling matches.  Marshall was a loving husband and fatherThere was nothing he would not do for his family.
Mr. Marshall Walden, Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, November 14, 2012,  at the age of eighty-nine years one month and nineteen days.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Erma Jean Walden; sister, Elizabeth Owens and great grandsons, Aaron Staton, Jr. and Gregory Marshall Johnson, Jr.  
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Adda Mae Walden; sons, Curtis Walden, Marshall Walden, Jr. (Elizabeth), Douglas Walden (Bonita) and Rev. Gary Walden (Jackie); daughters, Evelyn Vaughn (James), Carolyn Jean McNeal (Charlie), Denise Walden, Deborah Ann Walden, Vickie Darlene Walden and Cynthia Walden; sister, Phyllis Moore; stepmother, Mary Helen Walden; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
