Our beloved Dr. La Mar Reginald Ford was born on July 2, 1954, to the parents of Cherrie Mae Ford and Louis Ford in Chicago, Illinois. While his mother pursued her teacher’s degree in Chicago,LaMar(and his sister, Bridgie) spent three precious years with his maternal grandparents, Fannie and Robert Thompson and six of their children on a farm in Villa Ridge, Illinois.  LaMar often said that being surrounded by loving grandparents and the love, care, and protection of three uncles in high school and one uncle and three aunts in college had a profound impact on his views about family, responsibility and achievement.  Dr. Ford’s friends and colleagues describe him as a tenacious achiever without bravado; an individual who was responsible without a complaint; a hard working and strong man in the quietest of ways; an intellectual who did not belittle others; a man who was generous and gracious and easily approachable; and, an overall fun-loving person without being reckless (although his college buddies may differ with you on the last attribute!).
In Chicago,LaMar was guided by his mother to fulfill his potential and to seek higher learning. The strong bond between him and his sister and a matrix of cousins who supported each other through unconditional love and genuine friendship reinforced LaMar’s convictions about the importance of family. Later, this devotion to family was bestowed on his wife, Adrienne during their twenty-seven years of marriage and their four beautiful children, LaMar Jr., Alea, Natasha and Cayla. His wife and children returned to him, the love he bestowed upon them.
Dr. LaMar Reginald Ford graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fisk University, in 1977 and from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1982. Dr. Ford was a member of the American Medical Association.   He was also a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and a lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Dr. Ford accepted a position at Metro Health in Indianapolis in 1984. Because of his framework toward “giving back to the community” and the opportunity to extend quality medical care to all, Dr. Ford opened his private Internal Medicine practice. In his practice, Dr. Ford extended professional and compassionate medical services to his patients. He practiced medicine for thirty years. His practice can be described as a true family operation. His wife Adrienne often worked with staff and their children were often present until entering college. However, his children joyfully joined their parents in the office during the summer months.  Dr. Ford loved his work and his devoted staff, with special love for Delores, encompassing them as his extended Indianapolis family.
Dr. LaMar Reginald Ford was called “Home” on January 17, 2012. He leaves behind his wife, Adrienne and their four children, LaMar Jr., Alea, Natasha and Cayla; sister, Dr. Bridgie A. Ford-Morse; a brother-in-law, Robert E. Morse, III and a niece Alexis Regina C. Ford. He also leaves behind three maternal aunts, two uncles and numerous special cousins.

As a former Indianapolis based physician recruiter, I assisted Winona Hospital in recruiting a physician for Dr. Ford. It was my pleasure to have met him through this process. I was most saddened to hear of his passing. While I will be out of town this weekend and unable to attend his celebration of life service, I will be there in spirit. John 8:12 "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." God bless Dr. Ford and his family.

To the Ford Family, my heart and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I knew 'Joe' thru his sister Bridgie. I've only had a few occasions to be in his presence and talk with him. Of course as others who knew he was a doctor and met him out side of his practice, I had medical questions for him. Without hesitation he shared his wisdom and knowledge as to what to do and best remedy.

Thru Bridgie we always heard of what a family man Joe (as she affectionately called him) was and what great love he had for his children and family. His legacy will live on thru his four beautiful and intelligent children until we one day meet up with him again in Heaven.

To the Ford Family:
Dr. Ford was one of the first physicians I met at Methodist when I was hired as a traveling RN. He made me feel welcome and took the time to interact and listen whenever we needed him. His patients loved him and he was always so very kind and laid back, had a way of making you feel comfortable. He was a great person to talk to and he could make us laugh. My sincerest condolences and prayers for your loss. He was very nice to the nurses at Methodist Hospital and will be truly missed.

God Bless,

We are so sorry for your loss; as well as the loss to the community. Isaiah 25:8 come to mind: It refers to death as a sting. We are encouraged by John 5:28-29 which states Jehovah said that he will call people out of the memorial tomb. Revelation 21:3-4 encourages that He will take away death. Please reflect on the good times and keep those memories dear to your heart. Our prayers are with you!

I was saddened to read of Dr. Ford''s death. I talked with Dr. Ford on many occasions in my role as an ER doctor at Methodist. He was always helpful and considerate when I had to call him in the middle of the night ( I worked mostly the night shift 11-7). I am sure his many patients have missed him and his kind manner. I hope your many happier memories will help you through this difficult time.

I used to call him Bubble, although I think others called him Bubba. I will truly miss him. I know these are difficult times for you, but take heart, things will get better.

I have know Dr. Ford since I started as a student nurse at Methodist hospital back in 2001! He was always so kind and never easy to upset, even when we had to contact him at 2:30 in the morning, interrupting his sleep. He was a great man, loved by staff and patients. He was someone we could talk to with ease and have a good laugh while he made his rounds. We have lost a great man and kind soul!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ford family in their time of loss

Dear Adrienne; So sorry I am just now responding. I just recently heard about Dr. Ford's passing yesterday 04/07/12 from a friend at my church. I had worked with him as a senior nursing ast. at Winona Hospital until 1985, and knew him to be a very good doctor. He had been my doctor for the past 15 or more years, and was excellent at his proffession.
I will miss him, because of his caring manner, and his smile. He was one of the best doctors I have had. It will be hard to find a good concerned doctor like he was.
May God be at you, and your family's side to give you comfort, and strength at this time. You all have my sympathy for the loss of a loved one.
