Gilbert Clifton Davis was born 8/9/1952, in Bronx, New York, to the late Julius B. Scott and Inez Y. Davis Rogers. Gil attended Chicago Public Schools and was a member of the renown Chicago Children’s Choir and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School, Chicago, Illinois.

At a young age he professed his love for Christ in Chicago, Illinois. He later moved to Indianapolis, where he became a devoted member of Eastern Star Church under the leadership of Jeffrey A. Johnson Sr. Gil served faithfully in the Security ministry until he was met with health challenges.

Big Gil as he was affectionately known served in the United States Armed Forces.

Gil met the love of his life, Debra L. Smith, in July of 1976, and united in holy matrimony on August, 6, 1977. Gil and Debra were blessed with three exceptional  children, a son and twin daughters. Gil and Debra shared 43 years of total commitment. There was nothing too good that Debra wanted, that Gil did not ever provide.

Gil was employed at Andy Mohr GMC in Fishers, Indiana, and because of his outstanding salesmanship, he received many awards and accolades in selling new and used vehicles. During his earlier years, Gil was also a top sales person in the hair industry where he traveled the world and went to places like Africa, Barbados, Canada, and Europe. With his bubbly personality he can sell anybody, anything.

Gil was an avid reader and enjoyed reading history and autobiographies and always stayed knowledgeable on current events. Gil had eclectic taste in music.  He loved jazz, artists from the Motown era, and 90’s hip-hop, with his particularly favorite rapper being Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G.). Gil loved watching football, basketball, and tennis. Especially Venus and Serena Williams.

Gil’s charm and personality attracted people to him, so much that Gil never met a stranger. You can always find Gil talking, telling stories, laughing, cracking jokes, and bringing life to any situation.

Gil LOVED family! There was nothing his family needed that he would not try to provide.

Gil answered the call of his Savior on October 9, 2020, at 1:30am, with family members surrounding him with love at his bedside.

Gil leaves to cherish his memories wife, Debra L. Davis, son, Gilbert R. Davis (Qiana), daughters, Kara. L. Williams (D’Mon), and Kori I. Morgan (John), five grandchildren, April, Kailyn, D’Mon Jr., Carter, and Kyle. Two brothers, Greg (Carol) and Gerald Rodgers, and one sister Donita Rodgers, mother-in-law Ms. Laura Smith, two aunts, three uncles, generations of nieces and nephews, Eastern Star Church family, Andy Mohr GMC family, and many friends.
