Mr. Lawrence Edward Poindexter was born on August 10, 1936 to Gus Henry Poindexter and Lucy Mary Woods in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. E.M. Pendalton, at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Lawrence married twice. Lawrence and his first wife, Betty Poindexter had one daughter, Danyaile Poindexter. He and his second wife, Marie Poindexter also had one daughter, Angie Poindexter.
Lawrence attended Crispus Attucks High School and later went on to work in the family business “Poindexter Brothers Inc. General Contractors.” Lawrence worked in the family business for over 15 years before he later went on to be employed by Chevrolet Truck and Bus where he retired after 30 years of service.
Larry as he was affectionately known as by many was also known as “Pon” by his friends. Larry loved to work on cars and the family always encouraged him to open his own auto repair shop.
Larry loved bowling and would often beat the entire family during family bowling outings. Larry was also a member of a local bowling league.
Larry’s last days were spent at Evergreen Crossing in the loving care of their staff. Larry made many friends at Evergreen and was loved by many residents at the facility. His sister, JoEllen later joined him at Evergreen and the two were inseparable. They spent numerous days until his last breath, laughing and reminiscing about all the good and bad times they spent with one another and of the love they shared for each other.
Lawrence Edward Poindexter departed this life on October 1, 2020 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew James Poindexter and Mark Julian Poindexter and sister, Romelda Dean Poindexter Buchanan.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Angie and Danyaile Poindexter; sister, JoEllen Poindexter Elliott; grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
