Sanford Lane Smith, 76, died peacefully on Wednesday March 25, 2020.

Sanford was born September 9, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the youngest of eight born to Curvin and Cordelia Smith. He grew up in large, loving Christian family in Indianapolis, and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School.

Sanford was a member of Church of Christ Holiness, which was founded by his grandfather, Rev. Fredrick E. Williams. He gave his life early to Christ and was active in the church from early childhood. He served faithfully on the Trustee Board, as an Usher, and he drove the church bus.

Sanford was drafted to serve in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. After serving his country and earning an Honorable Discharge, he began a career with The Chrysler Corporation. He worked for years as a skilled machinist before his retirement, and he was a member of the United Auto Workers’ Union.

Sanford is the last surviving sibling of the Smith family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curvin and Cordelia Smith; sisters, Doris Jones and Theresa Guise, and brothers, Curtis Smith, Fredrick Smith, Demetrius “Dee” Smith, Radford Smith and Narvel “Mickey” Smith.

He has a host of three generations of nieces and nephews, a host of  cousins, and many longtime friends who will miss his earthly presence.
