Our beloved, Anthony “Tony” Wayne Walker was born to Sora William (Chadwell) Walker, Sr. and Ruth Mae Grier, on January 31, 1953 in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Tony’s life was nothing short of a miracle! After being diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, Tony’s parents were told that he would probably only live twenty– five years, if that.
Well, Tony defied the odds and lived to see the age of 66! Thank you, Jesus!!
Tony was a happy, loving person and had no problem speaking his mind. He loved to talk, especially about sports, and could carry on a lengthy conversation when it came to a football game.
Throughout his childhood the only way Tony could maneuver around was to be carried by our father or crawl and roll around on the floor. I remember clearly one day our parents hosted a dinner at our home and many prominent pastors attended, including our grandfather, the late pastor John H. Grier. At that time, Tony was nine years old. They told our father to go and get him… they wanted to pray for him. Within two weeks, Tony not only began to talk, but walk with the assistance of leg braces. Before long, he was able to attend Crossroads Rehabilitation Center and Noble School of Indiana. Soon thereafter, the leg braces came off and Tony could walk on his own. Nobody but JESUS!
I’d like to take this time to thank my wife and daughters who assisted me with caring for Tony and Belinda after the passing of my mother in 2002, especially Amber, who moved in with them for two years. I’d also like to thank my Aunt Anna and daughter , Donita, for checking on Tony when I could not.
Tony and Belinda were soon given care by a phenomenal company called, CRF First Choice, Inc. This company gave my siblings impeccable care and attention. From 2004 until now, Tony had been in their care and I thank God for you. Ashely and Adam, we love you dearly!
Tony is survived by his brother, Pastor Sora William Jr. (Alice); seven nieces, Donita, Danielle, Andrea, Angel, Deanna, Amber, and Alora, and a host of aunts, uncles, and friends.
