Elma Neal, was born in Covington, Tipton County, Tennessee on June 15, 1931.  A twin, he was the eighth of nine born to the union of Lawrence B. Neal and Florida Shelton Neal.  Reared in a Christian family, he professed his belief in Christ at the Plummer Grove A. M. E. Church, and established the habit of active church participation.  He received his primary in Plummer Grove Elementary School and secondary education at Frazier High School.

Elma heeded the call to serve in the military and enlisted in the United States Army from September 13, 1951 until May 22, 1953.  Upon earning an Honorable Discharge for his meritous service, his other commendations included a Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, CIB, and a Korean Service Ribbon.  Concluding his tour of duty at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, he began residing in  Indianapolis.

Elma was industrious in nature, and he soon gained employment, in 1953, at Hygrade Meat Packing Company, where he remained until the company closed its Indianapolis operations.

On August 27, 1955, Elma was united in Holy Matrimony to Izetta Hardy.  Their union of marital contentment and happiness spanned over 53 years, until her death in 2008.

In 1956, he made Barnes United Methodist Church his church home.  It was his joy to serve as a member of The Methodist Men, The Male Chorus, The Trustee Board, The Usher Board and The Feeding Ministry.  He dearly loved his church and Sundays were family oriented with church attendance a priority.

Elma embarked upon a thirty-four year career with The General Motors Corporation.  He retired on December 31, 2001 as a Material Handler and Utility Man.  He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union, (U.A.W.), #23.  Bother well-liked and highly respected among his co-workers, he enjoyed the camaraderie of his peers.  In his               retirement years, he continued to meet up with his friends at The Lafayette Square Mall and at The Riverside Community Center.

Elma Neal departed this earthly life on August 7, 2019, at the age of eighty-eight years one month and twenty-three days.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Vanice, and siblings, Paris Hall, L.V. Holiman, Lawrence B. Neal, Jr., Willie Sam Neal, and Berlin Peoples.

He leaves to cherish his legacy his children: son, Wayne (Marian) Neal; daughter, Roselyn Neal; daughter, Lillian Bacon; daughter, Linda Hazelwood; son, Anthony (Linda) Neal; son, Mark (Cheryl) Neal; son, Jerrod (Melanie) Neal; daughter, Janice Neal (Gerald) Sargeant, and son, Nick Terrell: eighteen (18) grand-children; thirty-five (35) great grandchildren; four (4) great great grandchildren; his twin sister, Thelma Neal, and sisters, Beatrice Whitley and Esther (Frank) Johnson , and a host of other relatives, his Barnes church family, neighbors and many friends.
