Phyllis “Phyl” Ray Taylor Kinchlow was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky to Willow C. Edelen and Virgil E Taylor on November 27, 1939. At the age of 12, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.

Phyl professed her love for Christ at an early age. She joined Belmont Missionary Church under the leadership of Reverend Gant, at the age of 15.  She attended Crispus Attucks and George Washington high schools. On July 16, 1962, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Carl “Deuce” Kinchlow and they remained married for 44 years.

Phyl wore many hats throughout her life. She was a Guest Services Representative at the Museum of Art for over 15 years. Her love for the elderly inspired her to become a registered C.N.A. She was also a Services Coordinator at Fagre, Baker and Daniels Law Firm for many years, until she retired in 2002. She joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 2001, lead by Reverend Ronald Covington Sr. She served as a member of the Welcoming Committee and sometimes volunteered for the Meet and Greet Committee. Phyl loved to host gatherings for family and friends. She would spend hours lovingly preparing her famous barbecue ribs, mixed greens and other sides.  Phyl always made sure her guests felt welcomed, had plenty of food and drink, they listened to good music, danced and enjoyed themselves into the wee hours of the night.  As an avid animal lover, she always had a pet companion that she’d dote upon and spoil rotten.

Phyl loved to sew; in fact, she made many of her clothes.  Phyllis was stylish! She loved trying new hairstyles, doing her make-up, having her nails done, dressing up, and coordinating from head to toe. Phyl enjoyed going to bingo and the casino with her friends, playing cards, bargain hunting at thrift stores and going to dinner and the movies with her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughters.

Phyl entered eternal peace on Sunday, June 9th, 2019, at the age of 79 years. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband of 44 years, Carl    Kinchlow; sisters, Regina Tracy and Peggy Taylor; brothers, Donald Taylor and Vincent Taylor, and step-mother, Norma Taylor.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory a daughter, Valerie Smith; granddaughter, Quiana Smith; grandson, William Smith, IV; two great-granddaughters, Kharin Dixon and Aaliyah Haley; five sisters, Jewel Edelen, Barkley Taylor, Bonnie (Anthony) Taylor Farris, Melissa Taylor and Vanessa Taylor; five brothers, Donald Taylor, Earl Taylor (Vanessa), Gregory Taylor (Cindy), Joseph Taylor (Sharon), Stefan Taylor and Terry Taylor (Patricia); very special friends, William E Smith, III, Jeffrey Bibbs, Betty Conway, Pamela Horton and Debra Fry, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, who she loved so dearly.
