MRS. LINDA TAYLOR-HENRY Obituary

A Brief Sketch of Her Life

Linda Kay Taylor-Henry, affectionately known as Kay or Kay-Kay was born August 7, 1962, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Julius and Rosemary Taylor.  Linda was the third of four children, with one brother, Garry Lynn Taylor and two sisters, Sherry Ann Peters and Julie Marie Eiland.

Kay lived her entire life in Indianapolis and attended George Washington Elementary School, Capital City Seventh Day Adventist and Indianapolis Jr.   Academy middle school and graduated from Lawrence Central High School.

Kay worked as a waitress and trainer for Chi-Chi’s Mexican Restaurant for over 20 years. While working at Chi-Chi’s she attended beauty school where she became a hairstylist and although she transitioned from the occupation full time   several years ago, she faithfully styled her sister, Sherry’s, hair every two weeks until she became ill. Another passion of Kay’s was cooking and prior to her death she served as a culinary teacher for preschoolers at Crème de Crème Learning Center where she known by her students and teachers as Chef Linda.

Kay was a very active young girl, where she could be found racing the neighborhood kids down the street bare foot, climbing trees and jumping fences. She attended gymnastic classes, participated in bowling leagues and played the clarinet. She sang in church choirs as well as the Lawrence Central show choir. Her true passion, which carried on through adulthood, was working with young people.  Kay could be found teaching her baby sister, at the age of six, and her friends dance routines in the carport and she later formed a tumbling team at Capital City SDA church that performed at various church conferences in and out of state and at shopping centers around the city.  She also served as the youth director at Mt. Calvary Baptist church where she directed the youth choir, praise team and a host of other programs, keeping the young people active and involved. Outside of church, Kay’s home was always full of kids, to the point where her son and only child Cedrick, wondered if he really was the only child.

Kay made her committed to the Lord and was baptized at Capital City Seventh-Day Adventist church by Pastor Christopher Clark.

Linda Kay Taylor-Henry departed this life on Wednesday, March 17, 2024, at the age of 61 years old with her son, Cedrick and sister, Sherry, by her side. Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Robert A Henry; grandmothers, Mary Northington & Margaret Taylor; nephew, LaVonne D. Harrod, sister-in-law, Marsha Evans; and niece, KaToya Evans.
