MRS. JUDITH TALLEY HALL Obituary

Judith (Judy) Elaine Hall was called home to be with the Lord on March 14, 2024. On November 20, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana Judy was born the second of five children to the late John R. and Violet (Rowe) Talley.  Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert W. Hall, her brother John S. Talley and brothers-in-law’s Alfred Lariez, Jr, James A. Hall and Ralph S. Hall.

At a very young age, it was evident that Judy developed a thirst for learning which allowed her to excel in all levels of education. She is a graduate of Shortridge High School class of 1962. Her quest for excellence in education was infinite as she acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kentucky State University. She later earned her Master of Education degree from Indiana University.

Judy began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS). She ultimately served as a principal before retiring from IPS after more than 30 years of service. She continued her educational career as Division Director of Upper Schools (Grades 5 & 6) and Lower Schools (Grades 3 & 4) at The Orchard School and later served as Coordinator of the Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) Student Teacher Education programs. She would go on to serve as advisor to the Avondale Meadows Academy as a member of the board.

Judy’s civic involvement was demonstrated in many organizations. She was the first African-American to be chairperson of the town of Wynnedale Board. She was the Financial Secretary of the Indianapolis Chapter of the Moles, a member of the Circle City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and Teen Sponsor of the Indianapolis Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. In 1967, Judy was initiated into the Beta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Kentucky State University. In 2017 she was recognized as a “Golden Soror” member of the Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., having celebrated 50 years of dedicated service to all mankind.

Judy truly believed that service to God was tantamount, not just in the church, but to her family and others.  She was a founding member of Covenant Community Church where she served as an Elder, Treasurer, and the Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee, as well as a faithful member of the Church’s Bible Study and Prime Timers group. She also participated in the Precepts Bible Study class at College Park Christian Church.

She was a serious-minded and structured woman with a love for elegance and the simplicity of life. She enjoyed time in the sun while enjoying God’s beauty in nature. You might find her shopping in stores, enjoying festivals and events, dining around town and traveling with friends and family. Her love of reading carried over into two book clubs – Lit Ladies and Circle of Friends. In essence, she lived life to the fullest, leaving a trail of joy, wit and inspiration wherever she went.

In 1969, Judy was united in holy matrimony to Robert Wesley Hall. To cherish her memory, she leaves her two daughters, Dawn Elaine (Mark) Hughes and Amber Dionne (Alvin) Benton; her aunt Eva Mae (Velonnis) Tyler; her sisters, Beverly R. (Curtis) Wilson, Cheryl L. (Edward) Cook, Lisa D. (Ebbie) Brown; her sisters-in-law’s, Charlotte L. (Stephen) Talley, Vera L. (James) Hall; her four grandchildren, Kameron A. and Bryce A. Anderson, Harper S. and Kellen E.
