Cateena Joyce Johnson, 67 ascended to her heavenly home on November 10, 2017 after a valiant battle with a long illness in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her devotion to her family and her fervent belief in God supported her in the struggle and ultimately gave her the peace she deserved.

Cateena was born on June 28, 1950 to the late Frank O. Sr. and Mary L. Johnson, a successful Evansville, Indiana businessman and his loyal wife-partner. She was immersed in the Christian faith as an active member of New Hope Baptist Church and later Nazarene Baptist Church which anchored her belief in God. She graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana in 1969 and went  on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts and Education from Indiana University in 1973. Cateena also achievd a Master of Science degree in Education in 1988 from Indiana University. Her lifelong mission was to foster educational opportunities for disadvantage children in the public school system. Her education prepared her to become principale of Delaware Elementary School in Evansville, Indiana following positions as art teacher and counselor in several elementary and high schools in the same city. During her educational career, Cateena received numerous awards, grants and recognition for best practices in education, art and support for the community. She moved to Indianapolis upon retirement and returned to education to become principal of Foxhill and Harcourt elemetary schools as a second career. She joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church after settling in Indianapolis with her sister Frances. Her mother Mary and brothers Frank and Dennis came later to claim Indianapolis as their new home.

Art, home decor, cooking and animals were some of Cateena's favorite past times. She was a gifted artist in a variety of media with oil as a specialty. Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, she was the life of the party at family reunions and other social events. Her family commitment included working at the famous Chicken Shack and Frank-O's Restaurant in high school and during the summers in college.

Cateena was an active life member in her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was initiated in Tau Chapter at Indiana University, Bloomington but also was active in Alpha Mu Omega and Zeta Zeta Omega.. She served in AKA leadership positions including Central Regional Conference Chairman and Chapter Basileus. Her other volunteer commitments included the Evansville Housing Authority, the United Way, the Indiana Unviersity Neal-Marshall ALumni Organization, Indiana Teachers Association and various community causes that touched her generous heart.

She is preceeded in death by her father, Frank O. Johnson, Sr., brother, Dennis Johnson, and sister, Jeanette Edwards. Cateena is survived by her mother Mary L. Johnson, twin siblings Frances and Frank Johnson, her sister Barbara (Herman) Burnett, her brother Wendell McCrae, her aunts Inez Hudson and Doris Walker, her cherished nieces and nephews Sherell Edwards, Dana (Antonio) Stewart, Romero (Sammie) Edwards, Y'Nesha (Devin) Schaffer, Erica Johnson, Carmen Cunningham, Samaria Johnson, Marla Johnson, Premere Johnson and Amari Johnson, her great nieces and nephew and her cousins. She also leaves behind dear friends, Lonnise "Bam" Roberson, M. Delois "Dee Dee" Strum, "Skip" Jordan, Linda Butler Williams, Gail Bushrod, Harold and Frankye Calloway among others.

Let it be known that Cateena Joyce Johnson loved the Lord, her family, and children and will be greatly missed by all who knew her in the days ahead. Amen.
