Mr. Edward (Sam) J. Madden, Sr., the son of Rev. William Madden and Nellie Hall Madden was born May 19, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Edward received his primary education from Indianapolis public schools #26, and later attended Arsenal Technical High and Crispus Attucks High School.

At an early age in life he was baptized at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church; where his parents the late Rev. WM M. and Nellie Madden were the original founding members.  He was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.

Edward was an avid bowler, winning many trophies.  He also enjoyed fishing and reminded “Ree” of Thursday evenings for Bingo.  If you knew Sam, cowboys on TV were his favorite.

As a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, his memberships include Men of Our Town and the Butler University Men’s Club, where he assisted with the golf outings.
