Mr. Sherman E. VanDyke Sr., the son of Sherman E. VanDyke and Malinda B. Taylor VanDyke was born November 4, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sherman received his primary and secondary education in the Indianapolis Public Schools graduating from Arsenal Technical High School. He went on to further his education graduating from Purdue University.
Sherman was baptized in accordance with the Holy Rites of the Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church
A United States Air Force Veteran he continued his Civil service employment at the United States Postal Service and HUD. In addition he was a licensed Real Estate Agent and Broker.
In 1957, Sherman was united in Holy Matrimony to Marlene Banner and to this union six children were born.
Mr. Sherman E. VanDyke departed this life on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the age seventy-nine years old. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Sherman E. VanDyke Jr., Herman E. VanDyke, Derek E. VanDyke, Karol VanDyke Quarles, Karla VanDyke Bebley and Lorine VanDyke McKissick; twenty-three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Connie VanDyke; the mother of his children, Marlene VanDyke and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
