Ernestine Hinton Jenkins, was born September 27, 1939 in Macon, Mississippi in Noxubee County to Ben Harris and Matilda Hinton.
Ernestine came to Indianapolis, Indiana in the early 1950’s, she attended Indianapolis Public School #85, #57 and Thomas Carr Howe High School.
Ernestine was employed at Methodist Hospital and Central State Hospital during school. She also was employed at Permobilt Storm Windows and Doors, and Indust Wheels before retiring for medical health reasons in 1997. She had also worked for Olin Brass.
Ernestine confessed her life to Christ at an early age at the Irvington First Baptist Church, where the pastor was Rev. Knowels. She was a member of Universal Haggar Spiritual Church and would visit at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and other churches.
Ernestine married Richard Abernathy in 1955 and the she later married William Larry Jenkins in 1968.
Ernestine Hinton Jenkins departed this life on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the age of seventy-two years, nine months and nine days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Benny Will and Benny James of Mississippi and a sister, Willa D. Gowdy of Indianapolis, Indiana
She leaves to cherish memories her adopted children, William Earl Dean Jenkins, Traonna Daniel Tracy Jenkins; grandson, Josiah; sisters, Mary lee, Lucy, Dorothy, Inell of Columbus, Mississippi; Margie Goines of Indianapolis, Indiana and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, and Nila and Max her pets.
